Graduates from the programme have been consistently producing books for publishers around the world and have won many awards. Among the leading UK publishing houses to commission our students and graduates are MacMillan Children’s Books, Templar, Walker Books, Random House Group, Little Tiger Press, Andersen Press, Hodder and Stoughton, Child’s Play, Nosy Crow and Orchard Books. As its international reputation has spread, the course recruits from ever further afield. A lively, culturally diverse studio culture is supported by a team of tutors who are leading practitioners in the field of children’s book illustration. These include Alexis Deacon, David Hughes, John Lawrence, James Mayhew, Paula Metcalf and Salvatore Rubbino as well as permanent staff Pam Smy and Martin Salisbury. Guest speakers have recently included Quentin Blake, Fabian Negrin and Axel Scheffler. Our Centre for Children’s Book Studies is one of the university’s leading knowledge and research centres. It has recently been successful in gaining prestigious research grants for student bursaries and for a visiting professorship.
We are taking this opportunity to showcase the work of many of our students and recent graduates. We hope that you will take the opportunity to view the work of this new generation of artists and writers.
