My love of drawing and painting has been a constant in my life since my original design degree approx 30 years ago. Doing this MA in illustration, seemed a natural progression; being able to see the world through the eyes of a child via my illustrations has been wonderful. I live in the heart of the beautiful English countryside, a source of great inspiration, carrying a sketchbook has become second nature to record what I see. Having been born blind in one eye, I wonder if I look at the world slightly differently? I like detail and texture, as well as colour, this being shown through mono-print, coloured pencil and gouache in my practice. Lately I have enjoyed the medium of collage, which strips away the minutiae, but allows texture through layering. In 2018 I was one of two runners-up in the Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival Salariya Picture Book Prize, with my book ‘Rosetta’s Rubbish’. I hope to build upon this achievement in my future career as an illustrator.
