Born and raised in the Midwestern United States, my earliest memories involved drawing on any surface I could find, playing outdoors with my three siblings, and then avoiding my three siblings whenever possible to wander into my own imagined worlds.
My adult life hasn’t been much different, but I grew to appreciate more things in life, including a keen interest in graphic design, illustration, and children’s literacy. My memories of finding picture books at the local public library left lasting impressions on me and my current work. My writing, visual aesthetic, and illustration often subconsciously harken back to those early influences.
After receiving a BFA in Visual Communication Design from Kent State University, I worked professionally as a designer and illustrator. A keen interest in education and children’s literacy led me to the Peace Corps Fellows Program at Teachers College, Columbia University earning an MA in Education, and subsequently teaching in New York City public schools. After moving to London and continuing teaching, my previous interests came full circle, leading me to pursue writing and illustrating books for children. Being accepted into the Children’s Book Illustration MA at Cambridge School of Art has been an amazing experience, where I am once again writing, drawing, and inhabiting imagined worlds.
I am currently seeking publishers and agents who will allow these imagined worlds to reach a real audience. Please check out my website and Instagram, and contact me via email.
