Diyala Zada

Hi, I’m Diyala. I started drawing since I could grip a pencil in my palm!

I grew up in the UAE then studied Fine Arts at Damascus University and got a BA in Visual Communications in 2006. Since then I’ve been working with a variety of publishing houses in the Middle East illustrating children’s books and magazines. I then moved to the UK and earned an MA in Children’s Books Illustration from ARU Cambridge School of Art.

I love illustrating and writing picture books and graphic novels for children.

I enjoy working with watercolours and experimenting with other mediums such as linocut, Risograph printmaking, and collages. I get my inspiration from nature, mythical subjects and folklore stories of different cultures.

I’m now based in Cambridge UK working as a freelance illustrator and making new exciting projects!
