I was born in Yorkshire and raised in North Africa. Animals and the natural world often feature in my work. Drawing is central to the development and realisation of ideas; which I explore through painting and print: printmaking is my most intuitive and preferred breadth of processes. Print provides a starting point, a strategy for planning images and sequential illustrations, helping to refine my image making instincts.
I enjoy generating a sense of unease within my work, exploring atmospheric qualities, ambiguity with mystery, hinting at human presence or absence. I manipulate the subtle truth of light and darkness to amplify uncertainties.
My work has a narrative that is often unsaid.
I studied Fine Art at Hull and postgraduate Printmaking at Chelsea School of Art.
The M.A in Children’s book Illustration Course in Cambridge has inspired me to approach illustration using processes that were not previously at the core of my practice.
