Sophie Burrows

I love to create stories, comics and picture books with an interest in human behaviour and the relationships and connections we form. I draw inspiration from the everyday, mix it with the surreal, and often try to weave humour into my work.

I originally studied illustration at UWE Bristol, and joined the MA in Children’s Book Illustration to refresh my creative practice. The course has encouraged me to step outside and really observe the world, recording the nuances of everyday life in my sketchbook. This has completely transformed the way I work, with observational drawing now forming a foundation on which to build stories and create images.

My process often involves using challenges or mini projects to generate ideas and characters. I like to play with a range of materials and processes including printmaking, with a particular love for dry media and bold line work.
