Victoria Crossman

I’ve always had an interest in illustration and in recent years decided that working in Children’s Books was a direction that I would like to take. Before embarking on the course, I worked in film costume which has influenced the project that I am currently working on, ‘The A to Z of Queens.’ This exploration of Monarchs through the ages, ranging from Chinese Empresses, Native American Chiefs and European Queens, draws on my love of pattern, detail and colour. It’s an opportunity to bring these characters to life and explore and imagine their environment.

Observational drawing has given me the confidence to experiment with different techniques in the print room and allows me to work in various mediums which enrich my work, my favourites being mono printing and lithography; using colours and line in combination with Photoshop has been a revelation in my work and I hope to develop and continue with this in the future.
